The subject of my last two articles, the dutch Provos, drew inspiration in part from the Situationists. Formed in Northern Italy in 1957, the Situationist International also influenced many other activists including some French student revolutionaries of May '68, particularly one of their figureheads, the enragé Daniel Cohn-Bendit known as Danny-the-Red. I will explore the influences of situationism on popular culture at a later date.
Read original material produced by this little-known yet formative group on the Situationist International Archives and the Situationist International Online at the Virginia Tech Center for Digital Discourse and Culture. For more information about the Situationists see the excellent Art & anti-art site.
